New Hope Centre in Burundi was started to provide a home for children who are refugees who survived the insecurity in Eastern Congo. Pastor Ruben and his wife Joli provide oversight for these children and several women called “mamas” who are the daily care givers for the children.
Through Hope for the Nations an organization based in Kelowna Canada these children receive monthly sponsorship funds. Presently Canadian Communities for Canada also provide funds for school provisions for some of the children.
We started teaching English to the youngest of the children from New Hope Centre. Twenty one of them came to our home each morning during the week for three years. They learned to read and write, enjoying books, art and a different way of experiencing education. Several friends who came to visit from Canada, New Zealand and the U.K. gave their time and experience to help with the little school.

We are very thankful to CC4Africa who helped fund New Hope school for those years. The children now are in an International English school and moving on with their education.
We had such joy working with many friends and the dear children as they learned and experienced much healing during those three years of English school in our home. God was faithful to show us the way forward and we thank Him and all those individuals who came to help and to support us and the children and staff. There was lots of laughter as well as tears and wonderful memories.
